Minneapolis, MN, October 18, 2008 -- Pennsylvania Attorney Philip Berg has filed suit in Federal court challenging Senator Barack Obama's citizenship status.  The Constitution specifies that the president must be a "natural born Citizen."    Berg claims there are serious questions regarding whether Senator Obama is a natural born citizen, and that Obama has refused to supply needed proof of his citizenship status.  Berg asserts he is an attorney, a former deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania, a lifelong Democrat, a Montgomery County Democratic Party Chairman, and a former candidate for both Governor and Senator.  Both Senator Obama and the Democratic National Committee have filed a motion to delay discovery pending a decision on a motion to dismiss.

"Neither Berg nor his lawsuit appear to be frivolous," said Bob Carney, who runs the RepublicanContract.com website.  Carney added: "Senator Obama should be called on to address his citizenship status in the same direct way that Senator McCain has addressed his own citizenship status.  However, Senator McCain also has an opportunity now to ensure that whatever happens in the election, a constitutional crisis over this issue can be avoided.  I call on Senator McCain to answer this question: 'If Senator Obama is elected, will you consider introducing a Constitutional amendment that states: Barack Obama is constitutionally qualified to serve as President of the United States.'"

It appears almost certain Obama's citizenship status will not be resolved by means of Berg's lawsuit until after the November 4th election.  Berg claims his website has had over 20,000,000 hits.  An eleven minute documentary, featuring an interview with Berg was put on youtube.com a week ago; the youtube.com site shows the documentary has been viewed over 1.4 million times.  In the documentary, Berg contrasts what he sees as Senator John McCain's forthright response to questions about his own citizenship status, to Senator Obama's apparent effort to duck the issue.  Senator McCain was born in Panama while his father was serving in the U.S. Navy.  There is an apparent consensus that Senator McCain meets the Constitution's "natural born Citizen" requirement.
