Minneapolis, MN, March 28, 2006 – An internet, ad and media campaign has been launched in Minnesota to recruit Republican State Legislative candidates to run in “Donut Hole” districts in the Twin Cities (see State House map below this news release). Currently there are no Republican State Senators or Representatives from either Minneapolis or Saint Paul.

The campaign slogan is: “No New Texas!” The campaign is not sponsored by the state or national Republican party.

The campaign is based on a “Republican State Legislator's Contract with Voters.” Important contract provisions include:

• “Winner take all, “take no prisoners” politics has got to stop.

• The legislature is the deliberative branch, and the branch best suited for lawmaking, policy and oversight. Caucus driven, party line voting must stop to allow deliberation to be effective.

• Geographic political divisions are harmful to the state, and must be reduced or eliminated. Republican legislators from different districts should and will represent different interests.

• Special interest money in politics is poison – it must be limited or eliminated whenever possible.

• Maintaining a good “public-private mis” -- a strong private sector combined with an excellent public sector, including government and non-profits, is a part of our history and heritage. We need to keep asking:-- what is best done in the public sector?-- the private sector?-- and with public-private combinations.

“I'm from the Republican wing of the Republican party. We need to take a look at what it means to be a Republican Legislator, Of course, incumbent Republican Legislators are being invited to agree to this contract,” said Bob Carney Jr., a Republican State Alternate Delegate from Senate District 60 who is promoting the campaign. “District party officials are also being contacted about this campaign. However, if there are legitimate differences over some issues, there's nothing wrong with taking these differences to voters in the primary,” Carney added.

Carney disassociates himself from Republican Federal races, saying. “the need for checks and balances in Washington is so great that this must be the overriding issue in this year's Congressional races. I would like to see some younger Republican candidates, some core city candidates, and some moderates, including people who would like to see the Bush administration thoroughly investigated for a number of abuses of power.”
