News Release, Brief Update: The Senate "Jobs Bill" does not contain any provision affecting the Political Contribution Refund
-------------------
Minneapolis, MN, March 29, 2010 -- The "Jobs Bill" that emerged from Senator Bakk's Tax Committee does not affect the Political Contribution Refund program -- funding is from other sources.
I was told by Baird Helgeson that his Star Tribune article went to press before Senator Bakk introduced an amendment Thursday evening to the "Jobs bill", taking out language that would have affected the Political Contribution Refund program.
It took multiple calls to the Star Tribune corrections department, but the article was finally taken offline for good on Saturday. It had been taken off-line Friday, but then reappeared.
I hope everyone has a good recess; I'll be back to defending the PCR, and promoting the "unallotment reform" bill next week. My plan is to draft an op-ed piece for the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press, to be signed by as many candidates for Governor as I can recruit, calling for the Governor and the caucuses to not take a position on the "Unallotment Reform" bill, so that each member will vote based simply on their own best judgment. The article will emphasize the importance of ensuring that the Legislature, not the Governor, sets policy and priorities for the state. That issue appeared to be the Minnesota Supreme Court's biggest concern during the Brayton unallotment. I hope most or all candidates for Governor, of all parties, will join in this position. --Bob Carney Jr.
