"Republican Reunion" event "a bust" -- Carney reassessing situation

Pawlenty Republican Primary challenge will probably be dropped

Carney will probably run for the Legislature, will continue with documentary and "Republican Contracts"

Minneapolis, MN, July 10, 2006 – Maybe the weather was too nice.  Maybe not enough people knew about it.  Maybe people are too practical.

For whatever reason, or for no reason, almost no one attended the "Republican Reunion" event, held in Southwest Minneapolis at Noon, Saturday July 8th, near Lake Harriet.

"On the one hand, I'm disappointed not to have generated more interest and activity in organizing people to move the Republican party in a more moderate direction," Carney said.  "On the other hand, I have had some very encouraging results with Republican leaders, particularly with the "Republican State Legislator's Contract with Voters, and with an alternative constitutional approach to the so-called 'marriage amendment,'" Carney added.

Carney has concluded enough overall progress has been made to justify focusing on the Legislature.  He is leaning towards running in District 60B as a Republican.

"I plan to continue to advance both contracts, and to complete the documentary I'm working on. I plan to continue to seek to do a videotaped interview with Governor Pawlenty, but the documentary can be completed without or without that interview, and in addition, it could always be revised at a later date," Carney said.

A more definitive news release is planned for early next week, including a detailed summary of what has been accomplished to date in trying to move the Republican Party in a more moderate direction.
