Note: The article below was written in spring
of 2006. Just before the 2006 Republican State convention,
Governor Pawlenty announced he would not renew the "no new taxes"
pledge. At the time, I regarded that as progress. I think
Governor Pawlenty still has a ways to go before he is approaching his
office as I think a Republican governor should approach it, but I
certainly welcome any opportunity to engage him on the issues I am
raising -- Bob Carney Jr.
If Governor Pawlenty had been following the
Republican Governor's Contract with Voters for the last three
years, this site wouldn't be
here. He hasn't... but this doesn't mean he could not change, and
agree to it this year. As this effort
progresses, all announced candidates for Governor, including Governor Pawlenty, will be asked to endorse the contract
100%, or to say where they disagree with it. If Governor Pawlenty either endorses
it 100%, or agrees to almost everything, this part of our effort will
have been a success. We will decide by an online majority vote
whether or not to nominate another candidate for the primary. I
assume the vote would probably be not to proceed. If Governor Pawlenty doesn't agree to almost everything, we'll have to consider
whether to take our areas of disagreement to the voters, by proceeding
to our own nominating convention, and to the Republican primary. I don't
see anything wrong with doing this. In either
case, this site will continue to promote and coordinate efforts of
Republican Legislative candidates who agree to the Minnesota Republican
State Legislator's Contract with Voters, and are working with us.
