Dear Fellow Minnesotan:

Let me be blunt:

We must stop the Tom Emmer disaster.

You can vote directly against Tom Emmer.  We can replace Tom Emmer.

Vote for Bob Carney Jr. in the Minnesota Republican primary for Governor.

If Bob wins, he will bow out in favor of a mainstream Republican candidate.

Here's what the Star Tribune editorial said about Bob's "principled" challenge:

"Carney, a Minneapolis journalist, offers moderate Republicans who have not followed Horner out of the party an option on the primary ballot. He's a critic of Gov. Tim Pawlenty's 2009 unallotment, which he considers an unconstitutional executive-branch power grab. His realistic budget plan -- more detailed than any yet seen from Emmer -- includes a $3 billion tax increase. The fact that Carney has been unable to mount even the semblance of a campaign reveals how near to extinction the once-dominant moderate faction of Minnesota's Republican Party has become."

Here's how "We the People" of Minnesota can replace Tom Emmer:

First, I'm asking you to vote for me -- Bob Carney Jr.  -- in the Republican primary.

Second, here's my pledge to you, and to all Minnesotans:

Steve Sviggum (was Speaker of the State House)

Al Quie (Governor of Minnesota, 1978-82)

Jim Ramsted (3rd District Congressman until 2008)

Marty Seifert (was State House Leader, ran for Governor this year)

Norm Coleman (was Mayor of Saint Paul, U.S. Senator until 2008)

David Senjem (Current State Senate Minority Leader)

Bob Carney Jr. (it's unlikely the Convention would endorse me)

I will withdraw if the Convention endorses anyone else on the list.

Here's more good news:

The Minnesota Republican primary is an open primary. Anyone can vote in any party primary. You don't have to be a registered Republican, or a registered Democrat, or a registered anything.  If you are not registered to vote, you can register at your polling place.

I'm asking for your vote in this year's Minnesota Republican primary for Governor.

We must stop the Tom Emmer disaster!  We must replace Tom Emmer.

Will you forward this e-mail to your friends?

Please ask them to vote for me -- Bob Carney Jr.

You and I can get the word out fast. Call me, or my running mate, Bill McGaughey.  Our cell phone numbers are at the bottom of this e-mail.

Minnesota can and must say:

NO TOM EMMER!

Here's a memory aid: I'm the only Bob on the Republican Primary ballot.

Thank you!

Bob Carney Jr.

P.S. -- The Republican Primary is a referendum on the Tom Emmer disaster. But if you want to find out more about what I think and what I'm doing, please visit the campaign web site, at my detailed, issue oriented web site:

Or not.

The important thing is to forward this to your friends.

By the way...

Something like this happened in 1990. The endorsed Republican candidate, Jon Grunseth, withdrew nine days before the election. He was replaced by Arne Carlson, who went on to win the election. My Dad was an election judge -- he didn't get home until one in the morning -- they had to count special ballots printed just for the Governor's election.

Will you help our Minnesota election judges get some sleep? Let's get rid of Tom Emmer in the primary!

No Tom Emmer!

Thank you!

Bob Carney Jr.
